Camp Thirlby’s Guide to Getting Organized this Virgo Season
As the sun transitioned from bold Leo to cautious Virgo on August 22, you may have noticed a spike in motivation. This transition, in many ways, is one from play to work; yet, it brings pleasures all it’s own.
Like fellow earth signs, Capricorn and Taurus, Virgos are grounded in their approach to life and attuned to their sensibilities. They have a keen taste for the finer things life offers and a spirit resilient enough to work to achieve them.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. While the other Mercury-ruled sign, Gemini, uses its communication superpowers for wordplay and wit, Virgo is more inclined to precision. If all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed, you can bet a Virgo placement has been around.
Like their sister sign Pisces, Virgos are idealists. Symbolized by a youthful maiden, they look to the world with a keen awareness of the goodness that could be. While dreamy water sign Pisces retreats into a world of their own, grounded earth sign Virgo is more interested in manifesting their vision in physical reality. While their intentions are as pure as their hearts, this can make them critical and cynical as their high expectations are not easily met by the messy existence around them. These high expectations also reflect inward, as antsy Virgo rarely ever feels they are doing enough.
Yet, we love Virgo placements for their eye for detail, limitless resource of knowledge, analytical resourcefulness, and commitment to care for those they love and the world they inhabit. Here is our guide to getting organized this Virgo Season.
School and Work
Virgo is known as one of the most hardworking and bookish signs, making this a favorable time for professional and academic pursuits. Virgo season is checklist season, and I highly recommend you start one. Tally long term goals as well as short term ones to allow yourself the pleasure of checking tasks off as it’s own reward.
This is a great opportunity to revisit unfinished projects, as mutable Virgo possesses the resourceful adaptiveness to see them through. The sun in Virgo will have you hyper-focused on the details, so your challenge will be to balance your precise vision for the final product with oppressive perfectionism that could stop you from seeing it through. Remember that even Virgos are merely human and continuing to get it your best is far better than waiting for perfection.
Relationships
Reserved Virgo asks us to show up in our relationships via action, rather than expression. Consider tangible ways to care for those in your life. What acts of service can you fulfill to make your friends, family members, or partners day a little easier? What ways can you help them indulge their senses?
In sexual relationships, tap into Virgo’s earthy sensuality to indulge your partner in new ways with the earth signs connection to the physical realm. You might try at-home massages, taking turns with a calming scented oil, or you may just pay greater attention to the environment you curate for intimacy. Either way, luxuriating in tangible pleasures with your partner fosters a renewed sense of closeness and care. If distance is keeping you from sharing tangible experiences with your partner, try sending a sensory piece of you to them instead, in the form of your signature scent sprayed on a letter or a tangible mixtape of song that makes you feel the way they do. For added intimacy, record yourself introducing each song.
Free Time
Like their fellow hardworking earth sign Capricorn, Virgos have difficulty relaxing in their spare moments. Instead, you may wish to channel your free time into doing something that quells the Virgo desire to tend to and care for others. Consider ways that you can be of service to your community, in the most intimate or broad-reaching of ways. While some may say that Virgo placements are judgmental, I find this is because they have a strong sense of their own values. Reassess your own values and the ways that you manifest them into the world around you.
No one can organize better than a Virgo; channel that energy to continue organizing for justice in your community. Take note of the very public labor organizing that has already happened this Virgo season, as NBA players strike after the killing of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. What ways can you organize labor and resources in the fight for just ends?
All of this for-work-work, for-fun-work, and for-the-greater-good work calls for a soothing relaxation ritual. Indulge in earthy sensualness with herbal tea, seasonally appropriate treats, and a page-turning book.
Self
This is the time to shift gears and get real with yourself. Take inventory of yourself and your life. What’s working? What is not? What can be improved? Avoid thinking in broad terms; instead, focus on the finer details.
While this type of self-criticism might be something you typically avoid, it’s an important component to growth, as long as you are framing it through the lens self-improvement rather than self-hate or a desire to tear yourself down. Don’t dwell on the things that aren’t working; that’s only the first step.
The next is to make a plan for improvement. Get out your to-do list and outline realistic steps to bring you closer to your goals. Mentally prepare yourself for there to be deviations from this initial plan; like a Virgo, you possess the resourcefulness needed to get yourself back on track.
