Travel Tips & Essentials

Travel Tips & Essentials

Probiotics

These are a non-negotiable essential for travelling, especially as the immune system can be shocked and digestive system can spin out of whack. Make a stop at a local store to pick up fermented foods such as sauerkraut or kombucha if it's available. Make sure to pack a potent supply of probiotic supplement—I recommend Garden of LifePrescript-Assist, or Moon Juice for a powdered version.

Skincare

Take the time to treat a long train or plane ride as a little self-care session. I love packing a hydrating mask—I choose a clear one as to not scare surrounding strangers off—as well as a hydrating toner—such as this or this one—to spritz before my facial oil. I have my own, personally-concocted oil that I've used since I was fourteen-years-old, but I love ones from Raaw in a JarFeather Eagle Sky, + Mun. Once you hit the ground + are settled, take a warm shower with a final hit of cold water to recirculate the blood. Replenish the skin with shea butter—I love this sustainably-sourced one from Sun Potion—or body oils, such as ones from Jiva ApohaFeather Eagle SkyMeow Meow Tweet Tweet, or Herbivore Botanicals.

Magnesium

A hot cup of this bioavailable magnesium powder will not only provide restful sleep before travelling but also regulate the digestive system. It's the most essential mineral that combats tension that many are lacking, so I'm not afraid to often double-dose!

Aloe vera & herbal tea

Rather than chugging cups of water, hack into your body's hydration regulation with a shot of aloe vera juice and herbal tea. Aloe vera lubricates our insides and gynostemmaraspberry leaf, and rooibos teas provide deeper levels of moisture into the tissues than drinking pure water does.

Adaptogens

As I have a few herbs I rely on for homeostatic functioning of my body during travels, I pre-mix the herbs in a small jar for a travel-friendly option (rather than carrying five different jars). My current travel-taming blend is 1/2 teaspoon of reishi for a mellow dreamy state; 1/2 teaspoon of mucuna for a big smile; 1/4 teaspoon of he shou wu for grounding. If you do not have these herbs on hand, the most readily available, accessible, and supportive herb for travel is eleuthro root or siberian ginseng for its ability to combat fatigue and environmental toxins. I love brewing a cup of this tea the morning of my travels.

Lypospheric Vitamin C

This is another helpful albeit not required addition to keep digestion, energy levels, and assimilation regular. Lypospheric vitamin c is a bioavailable version of this antioxidant that is transferred straight into the bloodstream to be directed into areas which our recovering or indulging bodies are in need of support.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are my arsenal in bulletproof immunity throughout my travels. I either put a drop of oregano oil in my water the night before my trip or rub it on the bottoms of my feet (the part of the body that allows for the most readily available absorption). Lavender oil is a companion for those who feel overwhelmed or frightened during travels or flights; lemongeranium, or grapefruit oils are sprightly options to elevate the mood amidst screaming infants or cold seat companions; and peppermint or eucalyptus oils will provide relief from headaches, nausea, or general malaise.

Crystals

My bag pockets are never without crystals and they are crucial in grounding our energies when flying high. I like to pack amethyst to combat the hectic rush that can often accompany travelling; aragonite to increase circulation under the pressure of the cabin; obsidian for its protection as well as muscle regenerative effects; and black tourmaline to protect against electromagnetic fields (EMF) that are heightened in airports and planes.

Snacks & Meals

I am currently downing sprouted pumpkin seed butter + coconut butter by the spoonful, which make such travel-friendly snacks. I also love raw chocolate—you can see my favourite brands here. I have been noshing on these chocolate orange hearts lately + am packing a ginger version of their chocolate bar with me to take on the plane. I'll be packing a breakfast for this trip, which is an easy vi doused pasture-raised eggs with a side of half an avocado topped with pink salt + royal jelly/propolis/raw honey blend by Y.S. Eco Farms.
